A Messy Conversation for White Women with Niketa Rae

August 5, 2020/in Race, Roles & Rawness/by Sara Alvarado

Join us for a messy conversation for white women who are bound to make a mistake when it comes to the work of speaking out against racism. This is challenging work and we white women don’t have a lot of practice so let’s talk about the scary stuff…like how do we repair mistakes we’ve made? Niketa and Sara are ready to share openly about the importance of planning for mistakes so that when you make one, you are prepared to repair your mistake, recover from it and learn to rebuild trust with yourself and with whomever you’ve harmed (if possible).

You will feel more confident speaking up and standing up for racial justice if you are prepared for the inevitable. We have to stop trying to avoid making mistakes because the only way to do that is to stay silent…and silence is deadly. The mistake of silence is greater than the mistake you might make when you take action and practice doing the work. For certain! We can commit to causing LESS harm though and we can also learn how to repair the harm we’ve caused with integrity and in a way that will hopefully not cause even more harm.

A lot of conversations revolve around not making mistakes…let’s talk about making mistakes and what to do about it.

Join the next Messy Conversation with Niketa Rae on Tuesday, August 11th at 5:30pm. It’s a free, live event on facebook.
